Online detection of interturn short-circuit fault in induction motor based on 5th harmonic current tracking using Vold-Kalman filter

<span lang="EN-US">In this paper we propose a strategy for real-time detection of interturn short-circuit faults (ISCF) on three-phase induction motor (IM) by using Vold-Kalman filter (VKF) algorithm. ISCF produce thermal stress into the stator winding due to large current that flows through short-circuited turns. Therefore, incipient fault is required in order avoid catastrophic failures such as phase phase, or ground faults. The based an analytical IM model includes any windings and considering </span><em><span lang="EN-US">h<sup>-th</sup></span></em><span lang="EN-US"> harmonic voltage supply. Based equivalent electrical circuits with harmonics sequence components, tracking 5<sup>th</sup> component VKF proposed experimentally validated modified generate ISCF. Also, feeded programmable source synthesize distorted supply harmonic. results demonstrated positive-sequence magnitude good indicator severity once it exceeds threshold limit value, even under load variations unbalanced voltages.</span>
